DIY Power Strip

Does good power strip make may world better ?

Actually I'm pretty sure about it's sonic importance. In the past I had several power strips from popular brands including T+A, Furutech and Oyaide. I'm still using T+A which is a great performer, with some modifications.

For T+A, I had built a heavy and tough base using extremely thick 20mm alloy plate floating on silica powder filled in natural wooden enclosure. This was certainly for vibration management and result was great..!

So here my next step :

I have been searching for a good power sockets for a while. There are several alternatives available on e-bay but when we comes to Schuko type oppsss good luck to you. Bad news. I'm not a big fan of some big brands shiny plating so called audiophile products. I tried some rhodium and palladium plated sockets from Furutech and Oyaide and I found them highly colorful.

Take a look at these baby...

My search stop here for now with this decent quality "Germany made" ABL power socket. It has un-plated and deoxidized brass conductors.. There is a rumor that all ABL schuko power sockets come with factory cryoed. I don't think so but who cares.. I found it superior than many others I have used up to date. It is heavy, built like a tank and sounds pretty good.. Damn it's perfect for the money.

Now take a close look to new Cardas schuko outlet.. Grounding connector is almost same isn't it ?

For mounting I preferred hard aluminium alloy which is the same used in T+A mentioned above. Only diffrence is about the thickness.. Now it is 12mm with some hard cnc work.

I made a total of eight units. Half of them were six way and the rest was four.

Here you are looking to wiring scheme. All red ones are Neotech made 12awg solid core 7n up-occ copper with ptfe coating. These hook-up cables are fantastic. Thick white and green ones used for groundings were taken from Acoustic Revive's 7n occ copper power cord. Well I don't like ordinary jumping cables between connectors so design must be a star like which provides minimal interaction between powered devices.

For enclosure 22mm birch plywood was used. I recently made some cable elevators using the same material. In my extensive listening sessions plus A/B testing using Shunyata Dark Field, I observed interesting things.. plywood elevators are nicely contribute the sonic performance with little side effects. Under power cables feeding digital only equipments such as network player and NAS It works like a charm better than Shunyata. For devices including analog circuity same affects still there but it is also damping some frequency range on the mid / bass region. I think plywood hardly combined with massive alloy should be a perfect choice.

I have been using this power strip on the line dedicated for amplifiers for two weeks. it's sounding pretty good..
